Dave Stout
Colorado painter Dave Stout was born in Nebraska. After moving to Denver as a child, he spent many summers in the Rocky Mountains camping and fishing. He developed a tremendous appreciation for the landscape. Dave’s passion for art began in High School. He continued his formal education at Rocky Mountain School of Art and Design, Colorado Institute of Art and The Art Students League of Denver. Dave fell in love with pastels while using them on one of his first plein air painting trips. He liked the immediacy of pastel. “Their rapid application and intense color make the media conducive to plein air painting.” Dave is equally passionate about the still lifes he paints in his studio. “I love the process of controlling the light, subject matter and composition.” As a result of years of painting from life, his paintings display a strong sense of design and the handling of light. Dave has exhibited in many national and regional shows including The Knickerboker, Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of the West Coast and The Artists of the West Exhibition. His work is represented in galleries in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.
